Retaining Rings

With more than forty years’ experience crafting fasteners for the aerospace industry, Fastener Technology Corp. is a leading provider of retaining rings designed to withstand the most challenging conditions.

Fastener Technology Corp. – also known as FTC, was established in 1979 to provide high-quality, innovative fasteners designed to meet the needs of the military and aerospace industries. Today, FTC provides a range of manufacturing services to more than 400 clients in the U.S. and across the globe, precision crafting a spectrum of fasteners, including retaining rings, which play a critical part in a machine’s stability and function.

Retaining rings are specialized fasteners which play an important part in securing components to a shaft by providing a shoulder designed to retain an assembly. They usually work by slotting into a small groove in the body of the shaft or in a housing bore. Retaining rings are not a one-time fastener; this means that, once a retaining ring has been removed for any reason, it can be used unless it was damaged.
There are many advantages of using retaining rings over traditional fasteners including reduced need for machining operations such as threading, taping, and drilling associated with the production and use of traditional fasteners such as nuts, bolts, screws and washers, reduced weight of the completed product, and lower costs in terms of production, material, and labor. As a result, retaining rings have risen in popularity in recent years, with military and aerospace engineers.
